Work one panel at a time in a cross-hatch pattern — horizontal passes, then vertical — for even coverage. Let it flash (a few seconds to a couple of minutes, per the product instructions) until it starts to rainbow or haze, then immediately level it off with a clean, plush microfibre, followed by a second towel for a final buff. Move methodically panel by panel. Most DIY coatings take a single layer; some allow a second coat after a set window to build thickness. The biggest enemy is leaving product too long before buffing — that's how you get high spots.

A coating touch-cures in a few hours but reaches full chemical cure over roughly seven days. The sacrificial layer slowly wears under UV, road chemicals and repeated washing, and you'll know it's fading when water stops beading the way it used to — that's your cue to decontaminate and re-apply or add a topper.

Pay a professional if your paint needs serious correction, you want a multi-year manufacturer warranty, or you simply don't have the time, space or appetite for risk.
